
He obtained a first class honours degree in law in 1978 from the Università degli Studi of
Palermo, presenting a dissertation on Comparative Private Law entitled “Implied Terms in English
law”.
He specialized at the London School of Economics where he obtained the “First Class Certificate
in Modern English Law" with honours in 1977, and at the City of London Polytechnic where he
obtained diplomas in “English Private Law” and “Advanced Private Law” in 1980 and 1985.
In 1979 and in 1982 he won two scholarships, offered by the CNR, to study law abroad, ranking first on the list of merit with 59/60. In 1983 he took part in the competition Comparative Law
Researcher and came first on the list of merit, earning him a position in the Faculty of Law of
Palermo.
Since 1996 he has taught Comparative Legal Systems at the Faculty of Law of Palermo, on the 1st
and 2nd Degree Courses.
Since 1997 he has taught “Comparative Legal System", "English Law", "European Union Private
Law” and “Foundations of Italian and comparative law" at the Specialization School in
“Comparative Law with Romanistic approach” and the “Specialization School in European Law" of
the University of Palermo.
In 1998 he won the public competition to become Associate Professor and since 1 November 1998
he has held the course on Comparative Private Law at the Faculty of Political Science of the
Università degli Studi of Palermo.
In 1999 he promoted the advanced post-graduate course in “Comparative and European Law” at the
University of Palermo of which he is also he Director.
He is currently Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, Università degli Studi of Palermo, where
he is Professor of Comparative Private Law, European Union Law (Sources and Principles of
European Union Law) and Comparative Legal Systems.
He is a consultant to the Palmigiano law firm for questions concerning international private
law, comparative law and European law.
He has an excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of French.
He has written more than 50 articles and essays including monographs and articles in English on
specific issues of comparative private law (property, family, contract, non-contractual liability,
information law, succession) mainly related to his experience of common law.
