Traffic: bye bye Ztl. The Regional Administrative Court quashes the measure. Mayor Diego Cammarata reassures the citizens that the passes will not expire.

Goodbye Ztl. The regional administrative court has quashed the traffic restriction measure adopted by the local council led by the mayor, Diego Cammarata. From 5 May to enter two limited traffic zones covering an area of seven kilometres you had to be driving a cat car and have purchased a special pass. Cars of at least Euro 3 were allowed into the Ztl A zone and those of at least Euro 1 into the Ztl B area.
However, some of the town’s associations had appealed against the measure: Confcommercio, Confartigianato, Adiconsum, Federconsumatori and Unione nazionale consumatori, led by lawyer Alessandro Palmigiano, took the case to the regional administrative court as they considered the measure illegitimate because it was adopted in the absence of a town traffic plan, obligatory according to article 36 of the Italian highway code for towns with a resident population of more than 39 thousand. The Regional Administrative Court should have decided today on the suspension of the measure.
Instead, the judges decided to sustain the petition with summary judgement.
Mr. Palmigiano says, “The regional administrative court’s judgement confirmed the illegitimacy of the ordinance. The judges were courageous because instead of suspending the ordinance they quashed it. From today anyone can drive freely around the city. The associations I defended are aware that there is an environmental problem but they want measures to be taken with forethought and good judgement."
